Every day,  beginners start their affiliate marketing journey and the business model has been gaining in popularity.

However, most people who start doing affiliate marketing fail. This is the sad truth.

There are many reasons why this happen. But first let's understand a little bit more about what affiliate marketing is.

What is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is basically promoting other products and you will get a commission if you make a sale with a specific affiliate link that the affiliate program provides to you.

Is affiliate marketing dead?

A lot of people these days are saying that affiliate marketing is dead. however, this is not the truth. Affiliate marketing is just more saturated these days and it is way harder to get traffic to your affiliate links.

You need to stand out in order to succeed these days.

So short answer: Affiliate marketing is not dead.

Why do most people fail in affiliate marketing?

Now let's get to the point. Why do most people fail in affiliate marketing? Here are a few reasons:

1. Fake gurus on youtube

There are a ton of fake gurus on youtube teaching you how to succeed as an affiliate marketer. Not all of them are fake, but a lot of them are.

They make you happy by showing you much much money they have made and how easy it was promoting an affiliate product.

Unfortunately, these methods almost never work.

You will be stuck in the loop of these videos, watching video after video, but, you will make no money. You will see all these fake gurus making a lot of money, but in reality. you will make no money and so you will start feeling demotivated and will fail.

Even I was stuck in these loop of videos for nearly 4 months! I never made any money from the methods they talked about. But, I did not quit. I learned some actual legit ways to make money online.

One youtube channel I definitely would recommend you to watch is H- Educate.
They make really great content.

2. Shiny Object Syndrome

This is a big problem many beginners fall into.

Shiny Object Syndrome is basically joining any opportunity that looks good to you. This causes you to not be focused.

Most Super affiliates will recommend that you only pick a few products highly related to your niche.

If you start joining all the affiliate marketing programs which are not in your niche, and you also want to promote these links, you will have two approaches.

The first approach is  that you will have to start publishing on different platforms, in different blogs ,because, you won't promote the products of different affiliate programs of different niches to your niche targeted audience.

The second approach is that you will spam your audience with products of different topics they are not interested in.

So, as you can think, the first approach will burn you out. You simply cannot focus on so many different things without a team.

The second approach will also make you fail quite obviously as your audience will hate you.

So, don't fall into shiny object syndrome.

3. Not working enough

People would not become doctors or lawyers after studying for years and years if you could make thousands of dollars without any effort.

Everyone would be doing affiliate marketing.

So, it is not too easy to become a successful affiliate marketer. It requires constant and consistent effort for months and sometimes years to make progress.

This is just simple, not easy.

4. Not providing enough value

No one would buy stuff from a person who is just spamming. You need to provide value , then maybe you can pitch your product.

You need to spend a lot of time just giving value to the other person to whom you are selling.

This will help you to build trust and credibility among your audience.

5. Not following the 80:20 rule.

The 80:20 rule is really important. It basically means that every 4 times you provide value to someone, one time you will pitch your product.

This will make your workload a lot more, but it will really help you to become successful in affiliate marketing.

As I said, provide more value, sell less.

6. Not choosing the right niche.

Choosing niches that are simply not broad can cause you to not get traffic.

If there are only 100 people interested in a particular topic, you will not get too many views from that topic.

Make sure to choose a topic that is not too competitive but also not too small. This is a game changer.

7. Choosing competitive niches

Many new people to affiliate marketing use the regular weight loss niche to promote affiliate products from. Or any other competitive niche.

Weight loss or other niches like it simply have too much competition.

There are thousands of blogs of the topic.

Every facebook group is being spammed with links to weight loss products. you will simply not make any sales or it will be very hard.

I hope you get the idea.

8. Wrong affiliate products.

I recently wrote an article about affiliate product selection. This is really a very important topic. I often see people promoting those spammy weight loss products or any other product from websites like clickbank.

These products are often scams and will cause you to lose your reputation.
Trust me, you don't feel nice when you have just been scammed.

I recommend that you only promote products that are very credible and not products mad by just some random individual.

I suggest that you read the product selection article of mine.

It will be very helpful in this task.

9. Not being consistent

In online business models like affiliate marketing, it is not about how many hours you can work in one day. It is about how much you can work in a day consistently, everyday.

If you don't stay consistent, you will definitely fail.

10. Reinvesting the money earned.

I order to succeed in anything, you will have to reinvest money. There are a few ways to do affiliate marketing for free. However, if you want to scale up what you are doing, you will have to reinvest in your business.

This is also applicable go other things like sports. If you want to upgrade your game, you will have to invest in things like better equipment.

If you just made some money, reinvest it. Buy a course( not the get rich quick schemes) to build skills. Make your site better.

Invest in paid ads in sites like google, quora and facebook.

This will help you to take your business to the next level.

11. Patience

Are you ready to work for months before seeing any results. If that is the kind of thing that you can do. Great, affiliate marketing is something that you can succeed with.

Just be patient and understand that success is not achieved overnight.

Give up on the hopes of becoming an overnight millionaire.
